Director of Development

The Hillside School, an independent K-8 school for students with language-based learning disabilities, is seeking an experienced professional to serve as Director of Development.  The Director of Development leads the school’s fundraising and advancement initiatives and works closely with the Head of School and Board of Trustees to oversee and manage all aspects of The Hillside School’s development program. The Director of Development must be able to think strategically and practically to implement a comprehensive and results-oriented development plan that includes traditional and innovative strategies. Key components of this plan should include goals, strategies, and timetables for The Hillside School development program with a focus on prospecting and building relationships with key stakeholders. This position reports to the Head of School, serves on the school’s leadership team, and sits on the Development Committee, the Finance Committee, and The Hillside School Committee on Trustees.



  • Proven track record of fundraising success, particularly by securing annual, corporate and major gifts through a community of motivated supporters.
  • Required minimum of 5 to 10 years of increasing responsibility in non-profit fundraising. Bachelor’s degree preferred but not required.
  • Ability to balance multiple priorities in a complex environment.
  • Working knowledge of fundraising best practices and willingness to attend educational conferences and seminars to stay current on trends in independent schools and associated fundraising.
  • Strong knowledge of fundraising tools and technology, including donor databases, online campaign resources, and donor research.
  • Excellent communication skills both verbal and written.
  • Deep appreciation and understanding of the School’s mission and the ability to articulate its values and vision internally and externally.
  • Skilled with word processing, spreadsheets, and database management software. The Hillside School implements Veracross Data Systems.
  • Ability and willingness to work flexible hours to meet workload demands.
  • Flexibility to work occasional evenings and weekends to represent Hillside and attend community/school/fundraising events.
  • Ability to make independent decisions and eagerness to collaborate with others.

Director of Enrollment Management and Community Outreach

The Director of Enrollment Management and Community Outreach oversees and manages all aspects of the admission process from point of inquiry to enrollment and ultimately retention.
