Welcome to The Hillside School!
The Hillside School has been educating students with language based learning disabilities for over 33 years. Students come to Hillside unsure of who they are as learners. They often feel discouraged and defeated, questioning their capabilities due to unsuccessful learning experiences.
Students attending Hillside come from over 22 school districts and nine counties. These bright and creative students may have difficulties with the process of reading, reading comprehension, written expression, mathematical reasoning and calculation, expressive and receptive language, and executive function skills. During the years students attend our school they are provided differentiated and explicit, multi-sensory programs delivered in a small group setting of eight students per class. They acquire the ability to understand their own unique learning needs and are challenged to learn “how to learn.” An emphasis on demystifying individual learning profiles and securing the tools and strategies essential for success as life-long learners are foundational to the Hillside mission. The Hillside faculty and staff never lose sight of the whole child, realizing the importance of social and emotional, as well as intellectual growth. To this end, self-understanding and self-advocacy are encouraged throughout the student’s time at Hillside.
Our certified teachers are trained in evidence-based programs and methodology designed especially for students with learning disabilities. Hillside offers a full academic curriculum for grades K-8 that includes arts, physical education, guidance, language, library and technology. Our faculty, staff, and administration work as a team to create an environment where student learning flourishes.
