Library/Media Center
The Hillside School Library Media Center is a gateway to the world of traditional (printed) and non-traditional (electronic) information. Here students, staff, and parents enjoy an organized environment where they may find fiction and non-fiction materials on a wide range of reading levels, suitable for a variety of recreational and educational purposes. In addition, The Hillside School maintains a current collection of materials for parents who are interested in reading about issues related to learning differences.
The main goal of the Hillside School Media Center Library is to foster skill development in the use of authoritative information for a variety of purposes to help students develop a lifelong love of acquiring knowledge. Students attend library class once each week to browse and borrow books, magazines, and other media.
Media Center activities include:
- exploring intriguing materials that foster the desire to read
- engaging in activities that spark curiosity and generate questions for further research
- participating in lunch time book clubs for grades 4-6, and a reading review club for all grades
- adopting an endangered animal through the World Wildlife Fund after completing animal research
