Word of mouth is our most powerful marketing tool. Every Hillside parent is an ambassador for our school. Admissions Ambassadors support Hillside’s admissions efforts by inviting friends to open houses, sharing the Hillside story, directing neighbors to our website and “liking” us on Facebook. Ambassadors participate in the Family Mentor Program to welcome new parents, answer their questions, and encourage their involvement in volunteer and school activities.
This is Hillside’s most important fund raising activity, the foundation of all our philanthropic support. Volunteers give others the opportunity to support children with learning disabilities as they develop the skills to achieve success. Make phone calls to parents, alumni, and past parents during the Annual Fund phonathon. Sign your name to letters explaining the importance of financial support. Share your story in print and website testimonials of why you support The Hillside School.
Assist with special projects such as the preparation and installation of works of art created by Hillside students and the ordering and distribution of items for the Square 1 Art project.
Dinner Dance and Auction
An annual event since 1984, the Dinner Dance and Auction has raised thousands of dollars for scholarship support to the benefit of the entire Hillside School community. Whether or not you attend the Dinner Dance, many volunteers help to acquire, catalog and display items; promote sponsorships; promote the event; set up and decorate.
Hillside often needs handy-person help from moving or assembling furniture and book shelves to painting to simple plumbing, carpentry and quick repairs. If you love exploring the hardware store, this is a great opportunity to help.
A Hillside tradition in early fall, the Golf Classic raises funds that benefit every student. Whether you play golf or not, help is needed planning the event, finding sponsors, promoting golfer participation, creating signs, setting up and cleaning up the day of the event.
Help to maintain, care for and enhance the Hillside gardens and grounds – weeding, pruning, seasonal planting. This work can be done at your convenience – weekdays, weekends, evenings.
Teachers periodically need help with special projects, celebrations and activities. Current parents and grandparents would not necessarily be working in your student’s class, but your help is needed and appreciated in a variety of locations.
Teachers are looking for experienced knitters who can help students learn the basics of this life-time skill. This takes place at different times during the school day throughout the year.
Hillside’s library media center is a happy, busy place with resources for students and staff to share. Assist the librarian with the Book Fair, shelving book returns, dusting, and checking to make sure books are in the correct place.
Mailings and Handouts
Helpers are needed to copy, collate, staple, fold, label and seal – the many steps to complete mailings, prepare handouts, and assemble booklets. This work is usually done at Hillside during the school day.
Extend a friendly and warm welcome to all visitors. Sign in guests and provide directions. Receive deliveries and alert recipients. Help students make calls home especially on early dismissal or bad weather days. Help maintain the noise volume in the lobby to not interfere with classes in the library. Assist with other office tasks. Training and support will be provided. Two-hour shifts during the school day.
