Covid-19 Update

May 22, 2020

Dear Hillside Families,

We cannot thank you enough for your continued support, flexibility, and commitment to your children.  Adapting to a changed educational and social-emotional landscape while caring for your family during a global crisis without notice indicates the resilience of our Hillside community.

We have begun various scenario planning for the 2020 – 2021 school year. One of the greatest challenges of this planning is the uncertainty of the trajectory of the virus. We are exploring options that involve in-person, distance learning, and hybrid models. We also understand we will need to be agile enough to shift quickly between these models as circumstances demand. All potential scenarios involve their own unique health and safety, educational, and social-emotional considerations.

The decision made for opening in the fall will reflect the most recent and best available information gathered from public health experts, local, state, and federal officials, and national independent school organizations.

Each day brings new information and new questions. While it is difficult not to have the certainty we all seek, we will continue to be transparent, communicate regularly, and share information as soon as it is available.

We have learned so much the past couple months; our faculty has shown extraordinary work to transition to distance learning overnight, and we look to improve upon consistency for assignment location and a video conferencing program used by all teachers and specialists.  Thank you for your continued feedback during parent/teacher conferences this past week.

While fall will likely be anything but typical, no matter the format, you can count on the faculty and staff to continue to deliver the Hillside mission!

Enjoy your Memorial Day weekend and stay safe,

Donna Henry
