Twenty Minute Session:

Technology and Assistive Technology:

  • Hear about the impact of Technology and Assistive Technology on the educational experience at The Hillside School
  • See the tools students and teachers use
  • Try various technologies such as Snap & Read and Co-Writer

Ten Minute Sessions:

Executive Skills :

  • Find out about executive skills and the areas we cover at Hillside
  • Hear about the connection between learning disabilities and executive skills
  • See examples of embedded and explicit instruction

EmPOWER Writing Method:

  • Learn how EmPOWER is used across all grade levels and content areas
  • See writing samples from each component of EmPOWER
  • Watch a video of a student utilizing the EmPOWER steps when responding to a writing prompt

STEAM:

  • Find out the difference between the elementary and middle school STEAM curriculum
  • See projects Hillside students have completed
  • Learn how STEAM relates to science curriculum taught in the classroom

Components of Reading:

  • Learn how Language classes support reading
  • Hear about explicit instruction in Specialized Reading
  • Learn what Language Arts look like in the classroom

Guidance:

  • Find out what Guidance classes look like at Hillside
  • Hear about how the counselors support students individually and in small groups
  • Talk with the counselors about communication between home and school
